What Is God Like?

February 16th, 2008

During my personal Bible studies I made an amazing discovery. Before I started I asked God to show me His love more. And boy did He! I opened my Bible and read the great chapter on Love, which is 1 Corinthians 13, and when I got to the parts that explain what love is an impression came to me. Since “God is love” {1 John 4:16} then these characteristics on love must be what God is like.

With that thought in mind I re-read 1 Corinthians 13: 4-8 and this is what I saw:

God is patient

God is kind

He does not envy

He does not boast

He is not proud

He is not rude

He is not self-seeking

He is not easily angered

He keeps no record of wrongs

He does not delight in evil

He rejoices with the truth

He always protects

He always trusts

He always hopes

He always perseveres

God never fails

My mind was blown away at this revelation. I had caught a glimpse of what God is through those familar passages of scripture. I’m so grateful for what the Holy Spirit taught me here.

Tongues

September 10th, 2006

Tongues have always been a stumbling block for many people, even thought the Word of God speaks clearly about “Tongues,” or, “Languages.”

If Christians have so many differences regarding tongues how much more strange would it be for a Jew? I needed proof, so I asked God that if ‘tongues’ were for today and did come from Him, that He would give me such a special tongue that I would never doubt again!

Consider-the-Lilies Web Gallery

February 13th, 2006

Jesus said: “Consider the lilies of the field, how they grow; they toil not, neither do they spin: And yet I say unto you, That even Solomon in all his glory was not arrayed like one of these. Wherefore, if God so clothe the grass of the field, which to day is, and tomorrow is cast into the oven, shall he not much more clothe you, O ye of little faith?” (Matthew 6:28b-30, KJV)

One day I simply shifted my gaze and camera downward and looked closely—considered, as Jesus said—the wonderful elements of God’s creation that lay at my feet. I found that these “lilies”—what we call wildflowers, surely, but also “misplaced plants” (weeds), as well as spiders and insects of all sorts—these ephemeral examples of God’s workmanship—were absolutely beautiful.

The Gallery was established so others might also see the beauty I’ve found in my yard and be struck by the lavishness of God’s grace, too—and, perhaps, also “consider the lilies” in their own backyard, and be reminded of the promise contained in these words of Jesus Christ.

“My manner of life from my youth, spent from the beginning among my own nation and at Jerusalem, is known by all the Jews. They have known for a long time, if they are willing to testify, that according to the strictest party of our religion I have lived as a Pharisee. And now I stand here on trial for hope in the promise made by God to our fathers, to which our twelve tribes hope to attain, as they earnestly worship night and day. And for this hope I am accused by Jews, O king! Why is it thought incredible by any of you that God raises the dead? Read the rest of this testimony »
