Tongues

Tongues have always been a stumbling block for many people, even thought the Word of God speaks clearly about “Tongues,” or, “Languages.”
If Christians have so many differences regarding tongues how much more strange would it be for a Jew? I needed proof, so I asked God that if ‘tongues’ were for today and did come from Him, that He would give me such a special tongue that I would never doubt again!
On the 11th of March, 1982, I invited a friend and a sister in the Lord, Felicity Waddington, to come and visit me. I told her of my special request to God. We waited upon God in prayer and then she started speaking in tongues, and interpreting it. She said, “What I have promised is yours. Take it.”
I opened my mouth in praise. Suddenly I was caught up in such intensity, as if I was surrounded by fire! Even my friend felt it! The tongue flowed rapidly, and it felt as if it reached the very throne of God!
I then realized that I had experienced the supernatural! The gift of tongues!
As it is Written: “They saw what seemed to be tongues of fire that separated and come to rest on each of them. All of them were filled with the Holy Spirit and began to speak in other languages as the Spirit enabled them.” Acts 2:3-4
Mark was due in at that time. I thought that if he should find me in such a state, he would have thought I was out of my mind.
As it is Written: “The man without the Spirit does not accept the things that come from the Spirit of God. . . because they are Spiritually discerned.” I Corinthians 2:14
The Holy Spirit knew my anguish and immediately stopped the flowing of the tongue. Praise God, He knows our hearts!
From then on, I knew that the tongue was for today and was from God!
And as I EXPECTED, He totally granted my request!
Praise His Name forever!

Hi Marlene.
Thank you for your testimony. Here in South Africa many people are talking about the tongues issue. Some people says that it should be a specific language others say it’s ok if it’s a “babble” language. I have prayed in a tongue before… it was wonderful! The tongue God gave you is it in a specific language or is it in a strange “babble” tongue?

God Bless you for your testimony on the gift of speaking in tounges. I was babtized in the Holy Spirit a year ago and what an awesome gift God gave me. Some do not believe such gifts are real. One man proclaimed he believes literally everything the bible says but not that one can speak in tounges. How little “his” god must be.
Scripture tells us of the gifts of the Holy Spirit in 1 Corinthians 12:7-11
7.Now to each one the manifestation of the Spirit is given for the common good. 8.To one there is given through the Spirit the message of wisdom, to another the message of knowledge by means of the same Spirit, 9.to another faith by the same Spirit, to another gifts of healing by that one Spirit, 10.to another miraculous powers, to another prophecy, to another distinguishing between spirits, to another speaking in different kinds of tongues,[a] and to still another the interpretation of tongues.[b] 11.All these are the work of one and the same Spirit, and he gives them to each one, just as he determines.

PRAISE THE LORD FOR ALL HE HAS DONE FOR ME..SAVED ME FIRST AND FOREMOST FROM HELL,BY SALVATION,THAN When I got backslidden even though it was for a very long time,and I Was living for the world he saved me from wrecks,muggings ,I Mean they did happen but he kept me from either dying or being in a wheelchair or in a coma,PRAISE GOD.For without him I Have nothing.I wish the world would realize what he can do for them,but so many won’t listen,but I still pray for lost friends past and present…GOD BLESS YOU ALL.

Praise God and His Mercies are endless. I am praying for Healing for my daughter who suffers from atopic excema, asa mother my heart bleeds, she is not know Jesus , but I know He is her Healer . In HIS TIME He will honour my prayer and I also Pray my children will be saved.

I was one of those who did not speak in tongue when I was baptized with the Holy Spirit. The gift has to be stirred up and released. Sometimes, God waits and educates us in that rather than an “automatic” spiritual experience upon the baptism of the Holy Spirit.
More importantly, we have to recognize the purposes of tongues rather than experiencing and exercising the gift. I pray that the Spirit of God will stir our hearts to release the gift in us.

I always wondered what tongues was. When I turn on the television, it just seems like people are babbling nonsense. I do believe in the gift of tongues, I just do not understand it yet.

Hi, Marlene. Your description of speaking in tongues is truly beautiful. Tongues are taught throughout the New Testament, and there are some foreshadows in the Old Testament. The Lord graciously gave me the gift of speaking in tongues over 30 years ago, when I asked him to baptize me in the Holy Spirit.
Thank you for this wonderful testimony.

What a blessing. I am in need of complete healing and deliverence from depression, heatbreak, hoplessness, despair. I come from an alcoholic family. I am a believer in Christ Jesus and am gifted with the Holy Spirit. I still suffer from grief as I have been going through organizational losses, as well as repeated losses over the past several years. Would somebody please help me? I am an intercessor, and have been praying for myself and others. I am also in the word. I have been walking with God for 35 years. I desire more and more of Him. I am equipped and gifted for the five-fold ministry of Jesus Christ and the Seven-Fold ministry of Jehovah. My intermediate family is crying out in grief and from Satanic attack. We all are need of complete healing and deliverance mentally, emotionally, physically, and spiritually. Could somebody please help me through this massive heartbreaking, grieving process. Please ask God for an expidite healing.

Hi sister,
when I was reading this I got chills from head to toe…I have been praying for the baptism of the HOLY SPIRIT and speaking in tongues….I so desire this gift…I am 26 years old and have always had dreams…I ask what must I do to obtain this gift of tongues and prophecy…I have prayed for it and I still haven’t received it…please help!!!!

Tongues is a s real as the words on this message. I have been born again 28 yers almost, but my gift of tongues was hardly there, so to speak.
One day I asked the Lord God boldly “How come I have been born again so long and do not speak in tongues?”
He answered verbally and loudly “You want to speak in tongues,…REPEAT AFTER ME!……Yahkah Bariska”, and He was gone.
It means ‘LORD GOD…. FATHER SAVIOUR GOD’
I wrote this message to let the readers know that not every one is gifted in tongues, but YES it sure is one of the HOLY SPIRIT gifts, but its not my gift as such.
The Lord gifted me with other gifts, namely revelation of the scriptures, the so called riddles.

God is the God whom we can’t test.An all knowing God who knows if we are indeed true with our words.The day will come when we will all stand before Him and be accountable for all the things we have been doing on earth(Matt.7:21-ff).May we be truewill all our testimonies for the glory of His name.(Not for our own glory).God bless!

Firstly am born again andI have never been able to speak in tounges.
though something maraculous happened to me while reading this testomony and your reply.
Im currently at work and decided to read some testemonies as we not busy today.
and i was readin your reply on Jesus’s words to you YAHKAR BARISKA i repeated the words and i immidately i felt fire within me my blood pumped so fast and i felt lightheaded it was AMAZING what i want to ask is is this normal and what does it mean?

I remember, i desired to speak for many years,about 9 years later, i started getting really close to Jesus, studying and finally understanding the bible.
I was studying the bible one night alone in my living room. I felt like i should talk, i opened my mouth and i heard myself speaking in tongues, went on without stopping for 40 minutes( those 40 minutes seemed like 4 minutes, honest!)
and for several days i spoke it subconsciously, sometimes waking at night and find myself praying in my sleep. I long for those days!

Praise be with Him
I am a 22 years old guy from India. I gave my life to Christ almost a year back. Didnt know much about gifts from God till I recieved it sometime after my baptism. I was praying in a church. They were singing a powerful worship song “Let the veil down and the praise go up”. Suddenly i felt a hot wave rise in me. It felt as if I am floating in air. When i regained my conscienceness after a long time i found myself on my knees, weeping and sweating profusely. And it felt as if current was flowing from my body.
I was told later that I was annointed with Holy Spirit and was speaking in tongues. Praise Lord.
I prayed to God to keep me annointed and bless me with His gifts. Now I speak in tongues whenever Holy Spirit touches me.
I have learnt that you should not feel anything bad about it. Its a feeling of shame and guilt which comes from satan when he wants to snatch away our gifts from us. We should rejoice in Lord, praising Him with everything and crush devil beneath our feet.
May Lord be with all of you and bless you abundantly.

it also says in 1 COR 13:8 That whether there be tongues they shall cease .so you see tongues was for the Apostles of old .there are not apostles today,just Disciples or missionaries our work to tell others about Jesus saving power.Cause it also says in 1 Timothy chapter 4 beware of some that shall depart from the Faith giving heed to seducing spirits and doctrines of devils, speaking lies in hypocrisy having their conscience seared with a hot iron.as well as in 1 John 4 try the spirits to make SURE they are of God and not of Satan.many false prophets are gone out into the world such as [name removed by editor] and others

Keith, please don’t say that. The scriptures do not state that the gifts of the spirit have passed away. On the contrary, we’re told to “eagerly desire the greater gifts” in First Corinthians 12 and “be filled with the Spirit” in Ephesians 5.

Not one iota of scripture has been canceled. Tongues have not ceased. I can attest that my husband has this gift, and I wish I did, too!

I was baptized in the Holy Spirit and started speaking in tongues. Question… How could I be baptized in and by the Holy Spirit, speak in tongues, and it is of the Devil? Jesus cast out demons and they said he was doing this by Satan. Jesus said, “a house divided cannot stand.”
We desperately need the gifts of the Holy Spirit, present day. When Jesus returns we won’t need the gifts…

To all who doubt the bible says that God is the same yesterday, today, and always (Hebrews 13:8) that means if the Holy Spirit baptized people in the past why wouldn’t he do it now. I myself was baptized in the gift of tongues (all glory to my God most high) and it has strengthen my prayer life I feel a closer relationship with Jesus because I know it’s a language that only my father could understand.”For he that speaks in an unknown tongue; speaks not unto men But unto God: for no man understands him but in the spirit he speaks mysteries. -1 Corinthians 14:2 And glory be to God he gives us gifts without deserving them
by the way everything we do in life and even having the ability to trust in our God and when we accepted Jesus Christ it was the Holy Spirit tugging our hearts without him we couldn’t change no matter how hard we tried he is our comforter here on Earth God’s gift to us, even what I write here is led by the Holy Spirit

speaking in tongues is the evidence that a born again Christian has been baptized with the Holy Spirit..it is a language given to you that you have never learned in the natural..it is an infilling of the Holy Spirit that is received by faith just as salvation..speaking in tongues is for prayer and praise .. If you do not understand it watch Sonlife Broadcasing Network Sunday night at 7pm est…they have an alter call for the baptism of the Holy Spirit every sun night..you can receive it watching this program right in your own home…praise the name of the Lord
